How to Play:

The game "Tafl" has many variations, this one being "Hnefatafl", which follows the Fetlar rules.

The rules are as follows:

All pieces move in straight lines, up until reaching any obstacle or other piece. (similarly to a rook in chess)

To take any piece (Other than the King) a "Squash" must be perfored by TWO pieces, consisting of a "Hammer" and "Anvil" piece. The Anvil piece must be next to the enemy piece, and then the Hammer piece will move to the OPPOSITE side of the enemy piece, creating a team-enemy-team pattern in a straight line. This will perform a squash, and take the enemy piece off the board.

In order to CAPTURE the King, he must be surrounded on ALL FOUR SIDES by enemy pieces, or if against an edge, surrounded on the remaining 3 sides by enemy pieces.

If the King reaches ANY of the four corners (called Towers) he escapes and the defenders win the game!

The Attackers may win in THREE ways:

1: Capture the King.

2: Squash ALL the defending pieces.

3: Encircle ALL the defending pieces, ensuring ZERO possible escape routes for the King.

Unfortunately for all of us, the winning conditions for both sides are not yet fully implemented, but you can fool around!
