I was 16 years old when I was diagnosed with Epilepsy. It severely impeded my ability to attend school. I chose to not let that stop me and continued pursuing careers of all sorts, looking for the path for me. I spent time in fast food, in warehouses, call centers, and even Supervised at a Haunted House. Finally, my disability overtook my passion and I spent years unable to work, living off of Disability and the incredible support of my wife. In my time being a stay at home dad and house-husband, I discovered coding. I took a deep look under the hood of some of my favorite video games, learning about plugins, mods, web apps and the incredible Internet of Things!
Okay, I guess I lied about this not including programming.
I waited for my health to stabilize. I spoke with several doctors, and made plans to enroll in school to receive a full education for this new passion. Until we were ready for my enrollment, I self-taught, practiced, and found any way I could to learn more about these incredible languages and the possibilities for creativity and problem solving that they could be used for, as well as all the forms of entertainment. I had officially found my passion. It was time to make it happen, so I enrolled at WGU.
